New York [US], December 6 (HBTV): Following the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, the New York Police Department has released images of a person wanted for questioning in connection with the Wednesday morning attack.
The New York City Police Department shared a post on X on Thursday, stating, "Below are photos of a person of interest wanted for questioning regarding the Midtown Manhattan homicide on Dec. 4. This does not appear to be a random act of violence; all indications are that it was a premeditated, targeted attack."
The post further added, "The full investigative efforts of the NYPD are continuing, and we are asking for the public's help—if you have any information about this case, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). There is a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction."
Brian Thompson, the Chief Executive Officer of UnitedHealthcare, was fatally shot in the chest in Manhattan on Wednesday morning, just after 6:45 a.m. (US Local Time). He was taken to Mount Sinai West Hospital in critical condition, but was later reported dead. Police officers continued to search for the gunman, who fled the scene.
The attack on Thompson is believed to have been targeted, as it occurred during UnitedHealthcare's annual investor conference in New York City. Thompson had arrived early to prepare, and the gunman appeared to know which door Thompson was going to enter. The shooter fired several times from just a few feet away before fleeing.
Brian Thompson, 50, had served as the CEO of UnitedHealthcare since April 2021. UnitedHealthcare is one of America's largest health insurers, employing over 100,000 people globally. Prior to this role, Thompson led the company's government programs business, including Medicare & Retirement, and Community and State, which provides healthcare to the economically disadvantaged and underserved.
