Shillong, Meghalaya, August 6 (HBTV): In a significant development, the Meghalaya state government has decided to impose a curfew along the international border with Bangladesh, following the resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ultimately fleeing the country.
The state’s deputy chief minister and the person in charge of Home, Prestone Tynsong, announced that the curfew will come into effect from 6 PM to 6 AM. The curfew will be implemented 200 meters inside Indian territory.
The Border Security Force currently has nine battalions guarding the territory of India in the Meghalaya state sector. The government of India is prepared to send more paramilitary forces in the near future, ensuring that there is no shortage of manpower to guard the border in Meghalaya, reports said.
The state of Meghalaya shares a 4,156 km border with Bangladesh.
