Tel Aviv [Israel], November 27 (HBTV): Israel and Hezbollah have reached a ceasefire agreement after months of skirmishes that caused thousands of casualties. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed that the ceasefire's duration will depend on developments in Lebanon.

Netanyahu stated, 'With the United States' full understanding, we maintain full freedom of military action. If Hezbollah violates the agreement and tries to arm itself, we will attack. If it tries to rebuild terrorist infrastructure near the border, we will attack. If it launches a rocket, if it digs a tunnel, if it brings in a truck carrying rockets, we will attack.'

He outlined three reasons for initiating the ceasefire: focus on the Iranian threat; allowing Israeli forces time to recover and replenish their stockpiles. Netanyahu acknowledged delays in weapons and munitions deliveries but assured these would be resolved soon, enabling the acquisition of advanced weaponry; and isolating Hamas.   

Netanyahu added, 'From day two of the war, Hamas was counting on Hezbollah to fight by its side. With Hezbollah out of the picture, Hamas is left on its own. We will increase our pressure on Hamas, aiding us in our sacred mission of releasing our hostages.'

The conflict between Israel and Lebanon began on October 8 last year when Hezbollah attacked Israeli-controlled territory in solidarity with Hamas and Palestinians in Gaza. This triggered a series of retaliatory border attacks, escalating into a major military offensive by Israel in mid-September. The offensive included a ground invasion that led to significant Hezbollah casualties, including the death of one of its founders, Hassan Nasrallah.

While the ceasefire provides temporary relief, the situation remains volatile as both sides continue efforts to stabilize the region.
