Geneva (Switzerland), November 29 (HBTV): Representatives from the Baloch Voice Association (BVA) and Baloch People's Congress (BPC) called for an immediate investigation into human rights violations in Balochistan during a meeting with Stamatia Stavrinaki, a member of the UN Committee on Racial Discrimination and Torture, at the Palais Wilson in Geneva on Friday.
The delegation presented a detailed report and video evidence of systematic human rights abuses against the Baloch population, highlighting enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and widespread torture. They also described the racial discrimination and political persecution faced by Baloch civilians, particularly targeting families linked to the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), who have been subjected to intimidation by Pakistani state forces and intelligence agencies, including the ISI.
Munir Mengal, the Baloch representative to the UN, condemned Pakistan's violations of international human rights conventions, urging for an immediate investigation into these atrocities.
A particularly disturbing issue raised was the racial profiling of Baloch students, especially in universities, who have faced enforced disappearances for participating in cultural activities or wearing traditional Balochi clothing.
The Baloch delegation urged the UN Committee to visit Balochistan, meet with the families of victims, and conduct a thorough investigation. They emphasized that Pakistan, as a signatory to international human rights conventions, is violating its obligations and must be held accountable.
