Nagaland govt agrees to give autonomous status to Eastern Nagas

Zhimomi categorically said that the government’s decision to give autonomous status is purely for economic reasons and not political.

Dimapur, Nov, 20 (HBTV): In a big development, Minster of Public Health Engineering department and Cooperation Jacob Zhimomi today, November 20, disclosed that the Nagaland government has agreed to the demand of Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) for autonomous council.

Zhimomi said as cited by the ENPO on the need and deficiency of development of the eastern areas, the state government has agreed to the proposal.

The minister revealed this development while addressing the gathering at the Central Naga Tribes Council cultural exchange programme here in Dimapur.

Zhimomi categorically said that the government’s decision to give autonomous status is purely for economic reasons and not political.

He said the agreement to the proposal is for a specific period of time and it is subject to be reviewed after 10 years.

“If the society is going to benefit from this proposal, we hope that the development as aspire by six tribes of the eastern Nagas, the state government is going to give full support to this proposal,” said the minister.

Zhimomi further seek cooperation and support from the civil society organizations to further consolidate and bring the fruit of development to the length and breadth of the state.
