Chumoukedima, Nagaland, September 11 (HBTV): The Nagaland Cabinet has decided to implement the contentious Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the districts of Niuland, Chumoukedima, and Dimapur. In Dimapur, the ILP mechanism has been divided into three categories.

During a press conference at the Secretariat in Kohima, government spokespersons Temjen Imna Along and CL John provided updates about the Cabinet’s recent decisions, with a focus on the implementation of the ILP in the three districts. This comes after demands from various quarters amid reports of influx from neighboring Bangladesh. 

Minister Temjen Imna Along, emphasized its significance in safeguarding the rights and identities of the indigenous populations.   

"The introduction of ILP in these regions is crucial for better regulation of migrants and addressing long-standing concerns about preserving our cultural heritage and demographic balance," said Along.

The minister elaborated on the categorization of Dimapur residents to streamline the issuance of documentation.   

"This move will ensure clarity and provide documentation such as Smart Cards, Permanent Residence Certificates, and Domicile Certificates, to those eligible," he added.

Regarding the modernization of the ILP system, Along highlighted the government's commitment to improving the digital framework for ILP issuance.   

"Students, teachers, technical personnel, and business partners investing in the state will be able to apply for ILPs with a longer validity of up to five years, easing administrative burdens while promoting regional growth," he stated.

Both spokespeople reaffirmed that the government’s dedication to balancing development with the protection of local interests.
