Imphal, Manipur, October 22 (HBTV): The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has sanctioned approximately 7000 houses for Manipur, which the state government hopes would benefit internally displaced people, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said. .

Manipur continues to struggle with sporadic instances of violence, an overspill of the ethnic violence that began in May 2023 that raged throughout the year.

After an eventful weeklong stay at Delhi, Manipur’s Chief Minister Singh on Wednesday expressed appreciation to the prime minister of India Narendra Modi as well as the Union Home minister Amit Shah and other leaders for their concerns for the Manipur crisis.

Biren Singh informed that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has recently sanctioned about 7,000 houses to be constructed in the state. This, he said, may “definitely” be useful for the resettlement of internally displaced persons in the state.

The chief minister said he has given a proposal for funds for the construction of approximately 2,000 houses for displaced people. The proposal is in progress with the Union Home Ministry, updates said.

Biren Singh said he gave the proposal to the central government so that internally displaced persons living in relief camps set up at schools and colleges can move out to other homes.
