The Kerala High Court on Friday granted police protection to an interfaith couple from Jharkhand who fled to Kerala and got married.

Kochi (Kerala) [India], February 28 (HBTV): The Kerala High Court on Friday granted police protection to an interfaith couple from Jharkhand who fled to Kerala and got married.

Advocate Akhil Raj B stated that the petitioners, one from the Hindu community and the other from the Muslim community, approached the court seeking police protection from alleged interference by the family of the first petitioner.

Speaking to ANI, Advocate Akhil Raj B said, ‘The petitioners had approached us seeking police protection because there was unwanted interference in their personal life by the family member of the first petitioner. The first petitioner belongs to the Hindu community, and the second petitioner is from the Muslim community.’

The advocate added that the couple had been residing in Jharkhand but faced threats of honor killing, forcing them to move to Kerala. They got married in Kerala on February 11.

The Kerala High Court issued an interim order stating that the petitioners could not be taken back to Jharkhand until a proper and full hearing was conducted. The case has been scheduled for next month.

‘Today, the Kerala High Court granted an interim order stating that petitioners can't be taken back to Jharkhand until a proper and full hearing has been done in this. The case is posted for next month. The Kerala High Court has also stated that the petitioners' personal life shall not be interfered with by anyone, neither the Jharkhand Police nor the petitioners' family,’ the advocate said.
