Newly elected members of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) took the oath of affirmation on July 5 at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima.

Kohima, Nagaland, July 5 (HBTV): Newly elected members of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) took the oath of affirmation on July 5 at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima. Updates on Friday, July 5, said the chairperson and deputy chairperson of the council has yet to be announced.      

The ceremony was presided over by T Lanusenla Longkumer, administrator of the KMC. Kohima’s Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant delivered the welcome address, thanking community leaders for their support during the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections. He urged the councilors to take their responsibilities seriously.  

Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture Salhoutuonuo Kruse also gave a short speech, expressing gratitude for the day and congratulating the elected councilors. She emphasized the historic nature of the event, noting the challenges in passing the Municipal Act and conducting the ULB elections after two decades. The elections were conducted with the 33 percent reservation for women.

Kruse highlighted the responsibilities of the councilors, urging them to act as bridges between the community and the council. The minister urged them to work with integrity and vision, and plan for the development of Kohima.       

Kruse assured the councilors of the government's support in their efforts to develop and uplift the municipality.
