Dehradun will soon feature the third largest shooting range in India, being set up at Maharana Pratap Sports College for the 38th National Games.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], January 25 (HBTV): Dehradun will soon feature the third largest shooting range in India, being set up at Maharana Pratap Sports College for the 38th National Games.

This new facility will rank just behind the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi and the MP Shooting Range in Bhopal in terms of target capacity. While the Delhi range accommodates 80 targets per event and Bhopal has 60 targets per event, the Dehradun range will feature a total of 160 targets, positioning Uttarakhand as a promising venue for national and international shooting competitions.

The shooting competition for the National Games is set to take place at this state-of-the-art range, which will include:

  • 60 targets each for 10-meter and 25-meter ranges.
  • 40 targets for the 50-meter range.

Indian National Para Shooting Team Assistant Coach Arun Singh highlighted the significance of this development, noting that the facility is equipped with advanced machines being installed for the first time in India post the Paris Olympics. He commended Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for his efforts in supporting shooting sports in the state.

‘This is a very ambitious project. Uttarakhand has always excelled in shooting, with many international shooters hailing from the state,’ Singh remarked.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 38th National Games, scheduled to be held in Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14, 2025. The event will witness the participation of over 10,000 athletes, coaches, and officials from across India, competing in 38 sports disciplines at venues across multiple cities in the state.

This marks the first time Uttarakhand will host the National Games, following the announcement in December 2023.
