New Delhi [India], December 19 (HBTV): A fresh controversy erupted on Thursday as parallel protests from both Treasury and Opposition benches continued outside Parliament. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi alleged that he was injured after being pushed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Sarangi claimed that he was standing on the stairs when another member of Parliament fell on him, causing a head injury.
"Rahul Gandhi pushed a member of Parliament who fell on me, after which I fell down... I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MP who then fell on me..." Sarangi told reporters.
As the incident unfolded, the BJP MP was rushed for treatment in an ambulance.
In response, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi denied the allegations and said he was also pushed and threatened by BJP MPs while trying to enter Parliament. Gandhi claimed that BJP MPs had been obstructing his entry and had pushed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge as well. "This might be on your camera. I was trying to go inside through the Parliament entrance, but BJP MPs were trying to stop me, push me, and threaten me. This has happened... Yes, this has happened (Mallikarjun Kharge being pushed). But we do not get affected by jostling. But this is the entrance, and we have the right to go in," Gandhi told reporters.
He also added that the central issue was the BJP's alleged attack on the Constitution and the disrespect shown to the memory of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The incident occurred as BJP MPs were protesting against the Congress party for allegedly "insulting" Babasaheb Ambedkar. "Babasaheb Ambedkar ji ka apmaan nahi chalega (Insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar ji will not be tolerated)," BJP MPs chanted, holding banners that read, "Ambedkar showed us the path, Congress misled."
During the protest, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh criticized the Gandhi family, stating that while they had all received the Bharat Ratna, it was not awarded to Dr. Ambedkar. "Congress party is the biggest sinner for disrespecting Babasaheb. The whole family took the Bharat Ratna and didn't give it to Babasaheb... Congress party should fast for 24 hours and take a vow of silence to atone for their sins," Singh said.
Meanwhile, MPs from the INDIA Bloc, led by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, held a separate protest in the Parliament premises, demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks about Babasaheb Ambedkar. Several MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sanjay Raut, Mahua Majhi, and Ram Gopal Yadav, were seen wearing blue clothes as a mark of protest against the Home Minister’s comments.
Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions were adjourned earlier on Wednesday as Congress and other opposition members protested against remarks made by Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha, in which he criticized Congress while referencing Ambedkar. The issue has escalated into a major political controversy, with Congress calling for the resignation of Amit Shah, while BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attacked the opposition party.
