Agartala, Tripura, January 9 (HBTV): Approximately 50-60 motorcycle-borne miscreants let loose a reign of terror in different parts of Mohanpur assembly constituency by launching unprovoked attacks against opposition Communist Party of India (CPI-Marxist) party workers on January 7, the secretary CPIM West Tripura district committee, Ratan Das, has alleged. According to Das, several party members who were at the receiving end of the violence have been hospitalized.
Speaking to the media persons at the CPIM’s West Tripura office, Das said, the CPIM’s youth wing DYFI organized a public meeting at Bamutia’s Kalibazar. Several party workers from Mohanpur also came and joined the rally out of their free will, he said.
‘The media published the photographs and videos of the rally which caught the attention of the perpetrators. They identified all the CPIM supporters and a day after launched targeted attacks on their homes. As many as nine party workers had been intimidated, threatened, their houses had been ransacked and in most of the cases the victims had been physically assaulted. One of the victims had been hospitalized at GB Pant hospital,’ he said.
Accusing the BJP of masterminding the attack, Das alleged that the vice-chairman of the Mohanpur Municipal Council led the gang of motorcycle-borne miscreants and guided them during the attacks.
“All the persons involved in these attacks are known faces of the area and they are very much infamous for their activities. All of them are associated with the ruling BJP,” he alleged.
Earlier, a delegation of CPIM leaders led by MLA Nayan Sarkar met in a deputation at the Mohanpur police station and demanded action against the perpetrators.
