Agartala, Tripura, August 31 (HBTV): Tripura Police have arrested two minors in connection with a month-old assault case. The victim, also a minor, has been hospitalized at the South Tripura District Hospital following severe burn injuries she sustained after hot water was allegedly poured on her private parts on July 24 this year.
The incident allegedly took place in the Kali Bazar area of south Tripura, where the girl was staying at her maternal aunt's residence. After the attack, police from the Manu Bazar station rescued her initially transferring her to Kalacherra hospital. As her condition worsened, she was referred to south Tripura district hospital in Santirbazar, where she continues to recover, though she remains under special care.
Officer-in-charge Bishnupada Bhowmik of Manu Bazar police station informed reporters that the girl, who hails from a nearby area, was introduced by her maternal aunt, Supriya Tripura, to the two minor boys. It was alleged that Supriya ‘facilitated’ the boys in exploiting the girl due to her young age.
One of the boys even proposed marriage, and the two exchanged garlands at a local temple.
The incident occurred after a heated argument between the girl and one of the boys, leading him to pour hot water on her. Following the attack, both boys, along with the girl's maternal aunt and her husband, Sukanta Tripura, reportedly fled.
On Friday, police arrested both the boys. They were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board. The police are searching for the girl's relatives who remain at large.
