Agartala, Tripura, February 1 (HBTV): A violent family dispute led to the brutal killing of a couple in Bishalgarh, Sepahijala district, on Friday night. The victims, Bipul Das and his wife Shimu Das, were attacked following an altercation with Bipul’s elder brother identified as one Bishnu Das and nephew named Ajanta Das. 

According to local sources, the confrontation escalated when the assailants overpowered Bipul. As Shimu attempted to intervene, both were viciously attacked with sharp weapons, leaving them critically injured. Their two children, who witnessed the horrifying incident, also sustained injuries. 

Fire brigade personnel rushed the victims to Bishalgarh sub-division hospital, where Bipul was declared dead on arrival. Shimu was referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment but succumbed to her injuries. The children are currently undergoing treatment at Bishalgarh hospital. 

Bishalgarh subdivision police officer Dulal Datta confirmed the arrest of the prime accused, Ajanta Das, shortly after the incident. Bishnu Das and his wife initially fled but were later apprehended. The arrested suspects will be presented in the court on Saturday. 

Enraged by the crime, a mob of locals vandalized the assailants’ house and vehicle, causing significant damage. Police forces were deployed to control the situation and restore order in the area.

Investigations are ongoing to determine further details about the dispute that led to the fatal attack.
