Guwahati, Assam, February 12 (HBTV): A case of triple murder has been reported from Guwahati's Bamuni Maidan on Wednesday. The dead bodies of three members of a family were found under mysterious circumstances in their own house. The incident took place at Bamunimaidam's Railway Colony.

The husband, identified as Lohit Thakuria, his wife Julie Deka, and his stepdaughter Ritika, who was a class-9 student, was found dead in their house.

Julie Deka, originally from Morigaon, was an employee of the Indian Railways and lived in a railway quarter in Guwahati. She had been married twice, with her daughter Ritika from her first marriage.   

Lohit Thakuria, had previously been accused of sexually assaulting his stepdaughter Ritika, leading to his imprisonment under the POCSO Act.

Following the discovery of their bodies, officials from the Assam police arrived at the scene to conduct investigations.

In a statement, the DCP of Guwahati Amitabh Basumatary said, ‘Our investigation has revealed that Thakuria committed two murders before taking his own life. During the previous night, at around 9:30 PM, Thakuria arrived home after which a violent altercation took place with his wife, Juli Deka, who was his second wife. The couple had a history of fighting, and on that night, the argument escalated. Thakuria murdered his wife Julie and their daughter Ritika before committing suicide.’
