Agartala, Tripura, March 7 (HBTV): A Tripura traffic inspector Amarjit Debbarma was arrested on Tuesday night by Bishalgarh police allegedly for embezzling INR 74.44 lakh in fine money.
The Sipahijala district police administration had been facing multiple allegations of financial corruption, with several police personnel being arrested in recent months.
Just as the controversy over a INR 29.4 lakh scam involving five officials from the Sipahijala District Superintendent of Police’s office was fading, a fresh case of large-scale financial fraud surfaced.
According to sources, fines collected for traffic violations were not being deposited into the government treasury as required. Instead, the money was allegedly misappropriated. Following an investigation, Bishalgarh police gathered substantial evidence against Amarjit Debbarma and arrested him on Tuesday night.
The incident has sparked major unrest within the Sipahijala police administration. Allegations of corruption within the force have raised serious concerns. Senior officials have reportedly ordered an internal investigation, and further inquiries are being conducted against other officers suspected of involvement.
The police administration has yet to release an official statement on the matter. However, the incident has triggered a fresh debate about police transparency and accountability with the public.
