However, the Sixth Schedule Protection Committee is concerned about the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled autonomous council's ways of functioning.

Dima Hasao, Assam, February 7 (HBTV): The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) has been constituted under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India. However, the Sixth Schedule Protection Committee (SSPC) is concerned about the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled autonomous council's ways of functioning.

An executive meeting of the SPCC in Haflong on Thursday evening took several decisions to raise voices against the DHAC's future plans and programs. These include protecting the Sixth Schedule areas, Implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India, wherein there is a provision of having a state within a state; and laying of the draft proposal for Constitution Amendment Bill 125.

The SSPC’s convener and former council member Daniel Langthasa alleged that the DHAC had allocated 3,000 ‘bighas’ of land to a Kolkata-based firm for the construction of a cement factory.

Furthermore, with the blessings of the DHAC allegedly, illegal mining has been going on in Assam's quarry in Kalamati in Umrangso for a long time, said Langthasa. He added that only small workers are arrested for such crimes and the big fish are roaming scot free.

‘We, the members of SSPC would raise such concerns in the coming days,’ said Langthasa.
