Senapati students warn COTU; clamps restrictions on Kuki-Zo community

The Senapati District Students’ Association in Manipur has noted with distaste the burning of trucks in the district on the night of June 19. The association has blamed the arson on ‘Kuki miscreants.’

Chumoukedima, Nagaland, June 23 (HBTV): The Senapati District Students’ Association in Manipur has appealed to all parties in concern in the area to stop unnecessarily hampering vehicular movement along National Highway-2. The Senapati students stated that it had urged the people to keep the highway as a ‘safe zone, free from any form of harassment. However, the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) had however completely ignored the appeal, the association said in a statement.    

In spite of the “hospitality, patience, understanding and neutrality” in the ongoing conflict in Manipur, ‘Kuki miscreants have had the audacity to set a truck on fire within the land’ on June 19, the associated stated.

Irked by what it said was affront and harassment along national highway-2, the Senapati District Students’ Association in Manipur has warned the COTU and its subordinates that the latter would be held solely responsible for any eventualities.       

The COTU continues to ignore the association’s appeals to refrain from unnecessarily hampering vehicular movement along National Highway-2 and to maintain the highway as a safe zone, free from harassment, the association stated in a press release.  

In this regard, the association declared that the responsibility for any adverse outcome rests solely with the COTU and their subordinates. No goods or commodities shall be permitted to be supplied to the Kuki-Zo areas from Senapati or any other sources within the jurisdiction, it stated.   

‘This embargo is a necessary measure to respond to the unwarranted aggression and to protect the interests of our community,’ the students stated.    

Further, the association prohibited individuals, businesses, or firms within Senpati from engaging in any commercial transactions, business dealings, or trade with the Kuki-Zo community.    

‘This prohibition extends to all forms of economic transactions,’ the association declared.     

‘Any person or entity found violating this order (sic) shall bear the full consequences of their actions. We will not be held responsible for any harm, loss, or misfortune that befalls those who disregard this directive. The responsibility for their safety and the repercussions of their actions will rest entirely on them,’ the SDSA stated.    

The association has urged all the parties in concern to strictly comply with this notice and to act responsibly to avoid further conflict.
