Imphal, Manipur, November 29 (HBTV): Schools and colleges reopened in Manipur on Friday. Teachers and students report facing numerous challenges in catching up with the syllabus and extracurricular activities.

The ethnic violence in Manipur, which erupted in May 2023, has resulted in hundreds of deaths and left thousands homeless or displaced. Violence and shutdowns continue to affect the state.

The principal of CC Higher Secondary School in Imphal, Memtombi Devi, said she has instructed her teachers to conduct extra coaching classes.

Furthermore, many students have actively participated in protests and demonstrations. Memtombi stated that she has identified a number of students who were involved in these activities and, along with her teachers, has started visiting their homes. She said she is working with the parents and students to encourage them to focus more on their studies. Memtombi noted a considerable improvement in their attitude.

The Vice Principal of the school, K Surendra, said the normal functioning of schools has been severely affected due to the ongoing situation. Surendra explained that many working days have been lost due to repeated curfews and other disruptions. He mentioned that, this year alone, approximately 50 working days have been lost so far. He added that teachers are struggling to cover the syllabus.

Surendra also stated that extra classes will be organized, even during the winter vacations.
