Imphal, Manipur, March 19 (HBTV): One killed several injured in inter-tribal clash in Manipur’s Churachanpur district on Tuesday. The clash was reported to have erupted around 10 pm on Tuesday between two major tribal groups in the district.

Confrontations occurred between Zomi tribe and Hmar tribe during which one man named Ropui Pakumte from the Hmar tribe died.

Report said the problem arose when some Hmar youths took down a Zomi flag hoisted near the Seilmat area.

Making a public appeal, the deputy commissioner of Churachanpur district, Dharun Kumar, said an all- out effort is being made by the district magistrate to come to a peaceful resolution to put an end to the violence.

Dharun Kumar said the district administration is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.

The official said, ‘We have taken constant measures to address the situation. Our law enforcement teams are fully deployed to maintain order, and appropriate measures are being taken to de-escalate tensions.’   

Dharun Kumar appealed to all tribal leaders, church leaders, leaders of philanthropic organisations and other group leaders in the district to undertake initiatives individually or at the organizational, community, or church levels to restore normalcy and ensure the well-being of the people.
