Naga men assaulted, robbed in Imphal by Meitei group Arambai Tenggol; organizations condemn

Two men belonging to the Poumai Naga community were reportedly assaulted and robbed at Lamsang in Imphal on October 31 by the armed Meitei groups Arambai Tenggol.

Imphal, Manipur, November 1 (HBTV): Two men belonging to the Poumai Naga community were reportedly assaulted and robbed at Lamsang in Imphal on October 31, triggering condemnations from community organizations.   

Condemning the incident, the Poumai Naga Union issued a statement stating that the brutal act was committed allegedly by the armed group Arambai Tenggol. The victims were identified as one V Hrangao Blesson of Kodom Khullen village and a Dalou of Liyai Khullen village.   

The two persons were reportedly returning from Thoubal after buying some livestock, when they were detained by the group. The two men were brutally assaulted and robbed of INR 30,000, updates said.   

Later, the two persons were taken to Phumlou ground, where an additional amount of money, approximately INR 31,400 was taken from them.   

Despite the victims producing their identification proofs, the union said, they were threatened with automatic weapons.   

Another organization, the Poumai Naga Women Union, also condemned the incident and said the attack, carried out by members of Arambai Tenggol Unit 18 at Lamshang of Imphal has pierced the heart of the community, wounding the very essence of their identity and dignity as mothers.   

The organizations have called upon the Manipur government to take immediate and uncompromising action to bring the perpetrators to justice, failing which the Poumai Naga Union will be compelled to mobilize democratic actions.
