Champhai (Mizoram) [India], January 11 (HBTV): The Assam Rifles seized 12,620 kilograms of illegal areca nuts valued at INR 88.34 lakh in Mualkawi, Champhai district of Mizoram, according to an official release. The recovered consignment has been handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, for further legal action.
In a separate operation earlier the same day, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the police and the Tripura Forest Service, eradicated a ganja plantation spanning 16.2 hectares in the Boxanagar Forest Range under the Sonamura subdivision. The operation led to the destruction of 16,500 cannabis plants, estimated to be worth approximately INR 70 lakh, as stated in an Assam Rifles press release.
Earlier this week, Assam Rifles seized another large consignment of illegal areca nuts weighing 10,320 kilograms and worth around INR 72.24 lakh in the Zote area of Champhai district. The operation, conducted on January 4, involved a joint team of Assam Rifles and representatives of the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai.
