Kohima, Nagaland, March 26 (HBTV): Journalists from Nagaland interacted with members of the Shillong Press Club (SPC) in Meghalaya’s Shillong to discuss various issues the press community is facing. They broached matters concerning press management, government initiatives, and challenges faced by the media.

The media team from Nagaland comprised 11 members from the Kohima Press Club, Dimapur Press Club, and Mokokchung Press Club. The team was led by S Hongpi Konyak, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Public Relations of Nagaland, updates received here said.

Welcoming the delegation, Deimaia L Siangshai, president of the SPC, provided an overview of the Shillong Press Club’s role and its influence as the apex body for journalists in Meghalaya. It was informed that the SPC has around 200 members. The interaction provided an open platform for discussions, followed by a brief felicitation ceremony.

Key topics of discussion included the functioning of the Shillong Press Club, the state government’s support for journalists, including pension schemes for accredited members, and efforts to streamline electronic and print media.

With the rise of social media news platforms in Nagaland, concerns were raised about identifying credible sources. Shillong Press Club members shared similar challenges and emphasized the importance of recognition and empanelment to ensure authenticity.

Both sides exchanged insights on managing press clubs, funding sources, and government support, highlighting various initiatives undertaken. More details are expected to emerge from further discussions with the respective teams and departments.
