Sribhumi, Assam, December 1 (HBTV): A massive fire broke out along the main road of Badarpur town in Sribhumi district of Assam on Sunday afternoon. Locals saw the fire emanating from a multi-storied building that housed a good number of shops and a lodge on the rooftop.
The fire reportedly started due to an electrical short circuit in one of the shops. Seven fire brigade engines were pressed into service to extinguish the fire.
Ten boarders were rescued by locals and Badarpur police personnel after they were trapped inside the lodge on the top floor of the building. They were rushed to a nearby health centre for treatment as they were suffocating from the smoke.
The fire shut down National Highway 37 for two hours. At press time, normalcy in the area had reportedly been restored.
