Unidentified miscreants on Saturday set on fire the residence of the Manipur Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) spokesperson Michael Lamjathang's parents at Peniel village in Tuibong in Churachandpur.

Imphal, Manipur, August 18 (HBTV): Unidentified miscreants on Saturday set on fire the residence of the Manipur Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) spokesperson Michael Lamjathang's parents at Peniel village in Tuibong subdivision in Churachandpur district, police said.

This is the third time that the residence of Lamjathang has been attacked since 2023 and the second time in less than ten days. A four-wheel was also torched during the arson attack by miscreants numbering more than twenty, he said.

Churachandpur district’s Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S has written a letter to the district superintendent of police to conduct an "enquiry" and submit a report at the earliest for taking necessary action, police added.

Condemning the attack, Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated on X: "I strongly condemn the arson attack at Micheal Lamjathang Haokip’s parents’ residence for the third time today. The repeated targeting of our people (Thadou in this case), often under the guise of peace rallies, is a deeply troubling trend."

"Such acts of provocation will not be tolerated. We will ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Moreover, action will be taken against the concerned officials who failed to provide adequate security, despite prior warnings of potential threats" Singh added.

The residence of Lamjathang at Peniel village in Churachandpur district was attacked during the previous week when more than 30 armed men fired several rounds and set on fire some parts of properties attached to the house.

The attack came few hours after Lamjathang participated in a local TV discussion on "Kuki supremacy and its agenda."
