Imphal, Manipur, June 21 (HBTV): Following a directive of the Supreme Court of India, the Manipur government has released funds for candidates of the civil services, those from the hill areas, who had travelled outside the state to write the examinations.

The deputy commissioner of Imphal East, Khumanthem Diana Devi, said in a public notice that the funds had been released by the state government to the deputy commissioners in concern. Each candidate will received INR 3000 per day for three days.  The preliminary examinations were conducted on June 16. The state government said it was still receiving applications claiming benefits.

June 25 has been fixed as the date for eligible candidates to receive the benefit. The public notice informed that all the candidates who are eligible to avail the benefit should send their applications along with relevant documents namely UPSC-CSE admission card, bank account details, and residential certificate to Home joint secretary Anna Arambam by mail.

Due to the ethnic violence in Manipur, which began in May 2023, candidates from the Kuki community aspiring for the civil services could not go to the capital city Imphal where majority of the examination centres were located. They chose to travel outside the state to write the examinations. Kuki candidates had sought the Supreme Court of India for assistance in this regard.
