Manipur forces launch massive crackdown against militant groups

In a massive crack down by security forces in Manipur, eleven people, including a female, belonging to three different unlawful organizations were arrested on Monday.

Imphal, Manipur, August 27 (HBTV): In a massive crack down by security forces in Manipur, eleven people, including a female, belonging to three different unlawful organizations were arrested on Monday.   

A statement from the Manipur Police Control Room said the state and central security forces conducted a joint operation. Six cadres belonging to the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup were arrested from Awang Potsangbam in Imphal West District.   

Police identified the arrested persons as one Oinam Naocha Meitei (26), a Tharoijam Nanao Meitei (25), one Yumnam Amit Kumar (38), a Sandam Roshan Meitei (24), one Moirengthem Boy Singh (41), and a Waribam Ibomcha Meitei (35). Police also seized three gun scopes, three live ammunition rounds, a tube launcher, a four-wheel vehicle, six mobile handsets, and various military apparel, among others.

In the follow up action, police raided some locations and seized arms and ammunitions.   

In another incident on Monday, Manipur police arrested a cadre of the proscribed outfit United National Liberation Front (Koireng) from Heingang Makha Leikai, Imphal Fast. The arrested cadre was identified as one Konsam Romesh Meitei (43). Updates said he was involved in extortion activities from various brickfields in Imphal East.     

In another police crackdown, four cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) have been arrested.
