Agartala, Tripura, March 16 (HBTV): Tripura Police on Saturday arrested one Badar Jamatia, a youth who had posted videos of him savagely killing a puppy that triggered massive anger from right-thinking citizens outraged by his cruelty. The video showed the accused youth lifting the animal on its front legs and slamming the animal back and forth on the ground. Jamatia also used a blunt iron rod to rain repeated blows on the puppy leading to its death.
As soon as the video was uploaded online, there was a strom of anger and outrage at the unimaginable cruelty of the youth. Social media users called out the youth for his foul and inhuman act. Individuals and animal rights nongovernmental organizations stepped in and filed First Information Reports (FIR) at various police stations across Tripura.
The Tripura Animal Resource Development Department Minister Sudhangshu Das also took swift cognizance of the matter and ordered the authorities to find out the details of the accused youth. The authorities found that Badar Jamatia hails from the Hadrai area of Teliamura under Khowai district of Tripura.
Animal Rights NGOs Pawsome and K-NINE also lodged separate FIRs with Teliamura Police station and West Agartala Police station.
Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman also filed a separate complaint. Speaking on the issue, the officer in-charge of Teliamura police station, Rajib Debnath said, “we have registered a specific FIR on Thursday night. After all the formalities, a team of police officials were sent to the house of the accused persons from where he was arrested in the early hours of Saturday.”
Debnath said that the youth would soon be produced before the court. Charges were framed against him under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
