Jiribam violence: Two police pickets, forest beat office burned down

Following the murder of one person at Jiribam in Manipur, several houses belonging to both Meitei and Kuki communities were burnt by unidentified individuals in Jiribam district, updates said.

Imphal, Manipur, June 9 (HBTV): Following the murder of one Soibam Sarat Singh at Jiribam in Manipur, several houses belonging to both Meitei and Kuki communities were burned down by unidentified individuals in Jiribam district, updates on June 9, Sunday, said.

Further, two police pickets and the Borobekra Forest Beat Office were also burned down by suspected Kuki armed miscreants, updates said.     

Additional security forces have been deployed to control the situation in the affected areas and prevent further escalation.    

Situation is said to be intense but under control in Jiribam district. 

The police said in a statement that the police are actively monitoring social media updates, which may incite communal feelings among the communities. The police have requested the public to refrain from spreading unfounded or unverified information.

Meanwhile, another report said a Village Defence Force outpost at Leisabithol was also burned down by miscreants on Saturday night.
