The mother of Janata Dal (United) member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Kh. Joykishan Singh, has lodged a complaint alleging that INR 18 lakh in cash and jewelry worth INR 1.5 crore were looted.

Imphal, Manipur, November 21 (HBTV): The mother of Janata Dal (United) member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Kh. Joykishan Singh, has lodged a complaint alleging that INR 18 lakh in cash and jewelry worth INR 1.5 crore were looted by a mob that vandalized the legislator's residence on November 16 and 18, police said on Thursday.

Several items stored in the legislator’s residence in West Imphal's Thangmeiband area for internally displaced people were also destroyed during the attack, a senior officer reported. An FIR has been registered.

The mob allegedly vandalized the legislator's residence for about two hours, the officer added.

The lawmaker was in Delhi attending to a family member's medical treatment when the mob attacked his residence.

An internally displaced person staying at a relief camp set up at Tombisana Higher Secondary School in Thangmeiband, a few meters from Singh’s residence, said vegetables and winter clothes stored for people in the relief camps were looted.

A volunteer managing the relief camp under Singh's supervision said the mob was urged not to vandalize the MLA's residence, as relief items for displaced people were stored there. However, lockers, electronic goods, and furniture were vandalized, and attempts were made to remove three air conditioners.

Seven gas cylinders were also taken by the mob, the source claimed.

Documents belonging to internally displaced persons were destroyed during the attack. According to the source, one volunteer was injured after being assaulted by the mob.
