Guwahati, Assam, December 27 (HBTV): A young woman was killed following a brutal stabbing attack by a cab driver in the bustling capital city of Guwahati, Assam.

The victim, identified as Mousumi Gogoi, succumbed to her injuries after being assaulted by Bhupen Das, who had reportedly been harassing her for months.

According to reports, the attack occurred on Thursday morning in Dispur when Mousumi was on her way to work. Eyewitnesses recounted that Das, who allegedly had a history of making advances toward the victim, ambushed her and stabbed her multiple times. She was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital but succumbed to the attack.

CCTV footage capturing the incident was retrieved by city police.

Police investigations revealed that Mousumi had repeatedly rejected Das’s romantic proposals, leading to heightened tensions. She had also taken legal action against him, filing a harassment case at Panbazar Police Station.

After the incident, Assam Director General of Police GP Singh confirmed via X that Bhupen Das had been detained. The attacker reportedly stabbed himself in a bid to evade justice but was apprehended and taken to a hospital for treatment. City police are investigating the matter.
