Imphal, Manipur, September 29 (HBTV): Suspected militants launched fresh attacks this time on an isolated village in Jiribam district on Saturday afternoon around 11:30 am, police said.

Armed men fired indiscriminately at the low lying Mongbung Meitei village from nearby hill tops and surrounding thick forests prompting retaliation from village volunteers in the area, the police report said. At press time, it is being reported that a firefight is currently underway.

Quoting villagers, a police officer said several women, children, and elderly are being evacuated to safer places.

Security forces have been rushed to control the situation, the source said.  No casualties have been reported so far.

Mongbung Meitei village, located some seven km from the district headquarters has seen multiple attacks from armed men since violence broke out in the district in June this year.
