Imphal, Manipur, December 28 (HBTV): A heavy gunfight continues in Thamnapokpi and Sanasabi areas of Imphal East District. A woman sustained injuries around midnight, and a video journalist working at a local television channel sustained bullet injuries in the early morning. The journalist has been identified as one K Kabichandra, working with Impact TV.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh posted on X, stating strong condemnation for what he alleged was indiscriminate firing by Kuki militants at Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi in Imphal East, which injured civilians and security personnel.

Two persons — a state policeman and a civilian — sustained injuries on Friday.

Ethnic clashes broke out between the Meitei and Kuki community members in May 2023. The clashes have claimed more than 260 lives. More than 70,000 people have been rendered homeless and are living in relief camps. Peace efforts initiated by the Union Home Ministry have so far failed to bear fruit, as both communities refuse to come to the negotiation table.
