Four elderly persons die in a tragic truck accident in Meghalaya, one injured

In a tragic incident, four elderly men from the Jirang region lost their lives when a truck carrying firewood they were traveling in overturned on a hilly road in the Mynnar Jirang area in Ri-Bhoi.

Nongpoh, Nohprah 16 (HBTV): In a tragic incident, four elderly men from the Jirang region lost their lives when a truck carrying firewood they were traveling in overturned on a hilly road in the Mynnar Jirang area in Ri-Bhoi district.

The four deceased individuals have been identified as one Edward Nongkhlaw, a Teilor Nongphlang, and a Francis Warjri, all from Iewsohksang village; and one Bankerlang Khyllait from Jirang village. 

Another person, Bah Benedic Syiem, was injured in the accident and is currently receiving medical treatment in Shillong.

According to reports, the incident occurred on December 15 when the truck, which was loaded with firewood, veered off the road and fell into a deep ravine approximately 200 meters from the main road. The men were returning after transporting firewood and had planned to offload it at a nearby location.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for necessary formalities. The families of the victims have been informed, and MLA Bah Sosthenes Sohtun from Jirang visited the families today to offer condolences and support during this difficult time.
