Agartala, Tripura, December 17 (HBTV): Five youths have been arrested in South Tripura district allegedly for gang-raping a minor girl. The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, with one of the accused persons abducting the girl and taking her to a secluded rubber plantation.

The victim returned home and disclosed the incident to her mother. A complaint was immediately filed at the Manpathar police outpost.

Police swiftly launched a search operation and within 24 hours, all the five accused persons were apprehended.   

The arrested individuals have been identified as one Shaktiyya Reang (18), a Nivas Tripura (19), a Subhash Reang (19), one Lakshmidhan Tripura (18), and a Jiban Tripura (21).

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The accused persons were produced before a local court, which remanded them to police custody for further investigation.
