Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has said that extortion activities and attacks on journalists will not be tolerated and will be met with swift action.

Agartala, Tripura, September 11 (HBTV): Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has said that extortion activities and attacks on journalists will not be tolerated and will be met with swift action.    

Saha issued a stern warning against extortion under the guise of festival donations, stating that such activities will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He assured that strict legal action would be taken immediately upon receiving any complaints.   

Likewise, the chief minister assured that attacks on journalists will also be dealt with severely. He has already directed the police to take swift action in the case of the recent attack on journalists in the east Agartala Police Station area. 

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Saha addressed the issues of extortion and attacks on journalists. He said reports have emerged that vehicles were being stopped on national highways in areas such as Teliamura and Kumarghat, where money is being forcibly collected in the name of festival donations. 

"As soon as information was received, police superintendents were instructed to take action against those involved in such activities," he stated.            

On recent attack against four on-duty journalists on late Sunday night in the east Agartala area, the chief minister said, the police have already arrested those involved.
