Nongpoh, Meghalaya, February 11 (HBTV): A 69-year-old milkman from Shangbangla village in Ri-Bhoi District was hit by a vehicle, a Mahindra Thar, that was reportedly escorting the Director General of Assam Rifles while they were on their way to the Guwahati airport.
The incident occurred on the morning of February 11 at around 10:20 AM near the office of the deputy commissioner of Ri-Bhoi district. The milkman was attempting to cross the road when the speeding Thar struck him. The victim, identified as one Jonga Bahadur Sunar (69) from Shangbangla village, was riding a bicycle when the accident happened. He was severely injured in the collision.
It is reported that after hitting the milkman, the vehicle also crashed into the divider of the four-lane road, causing one of its front tires to burst.
The injured milkman was immediately rushed to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for treatment. However, due to the severity of his condition, he was later referred to Shillong for more advanced medical care.
