Boat capsizes in Assam’s Goalpara, three bodies recovered, two missing

A small boat ferrying five people capsized in the Brahmaputra River in the Goalpara district's Simlitola in Assam on Thursday.

Guwahati, Assam, July 12 (HBTV): A small boat ferrying five people capsized in the Brahmaputra River in the Goalpara district's Simlitola in Assam on Thursday.

Locals said the bodies of three people have been recovered. Two people are reportedly missing.

According to reports, the boat capsized mid-river.

The deceased have been identified as one Manjit Saha, a Gouranga Malakar, and one Jit Karmakar.

Locals fear the two others identified as an Uday Sarkar and a Sujan Malakar may have died in the incident.

A local resident said five people were on the boat when it capsized. The bodies of three of them have been recovered, while the other two are yet to be found, a local said. 

A search for the other two passengers on the boat is still on, updates said.
