Agartala, Tripura, February 27 (HBTV): The Assam Rifles, the Customs department, and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seized approximately 2,40,000 Yaba tablets worth INR 24 crore in two consecutive operations in Tripura. 

On February 26, acting on specific intelligence, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs found unclaimed baggage aboard train no. 12098 (Shatabdi Express) at Ambassa railway station. A thorough search led to the discovery of 1,50,000 Yaba tablets, valued at approximately INR 15 crore in the international market. The contraband was handed over to Customs for further legal proceedings. 

Continuing its anti-narcotics drive, Assam Rifles and the DRI, conducted another operation on February 27 at Teliamura. Security personnel intercepted a goods truck with the registration TR 01 AU 1710 loaded with cement bags coming from Shillong in Meghalaya. Upon inspection, they discovered approximately 90,000 Yaba tablets worth an estimated INR 9 crore. An individual, a resident of Belonia in South Tripura, was apprehended and handed over to the DRI for further investigation. 

These operations are part of the Assam Rifles’ ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, aligned with the state government's ‘Nasha Mukt Tripura’ initiative. Since January 2025, the security force has conducted 21 operations leading to the seizure of contraband worth approximately INR 95.56 crore.
