Karbi Anglong, Assam, August 7 (HBTV): Altogether 44 people including nine Assam police personnel were injured on Tuesday in Assam's Karbi Anglong following a clash between protesters and security forces. The protesters were demanding eviction of what they alleged were illegal settlers in the area.

According to reports, the police waded into the protesters and fired in the air while demonstrators pelted stones at the security forces.

Several organisations took out a protest march in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, demanding the eviction of alleged illegal settlers residing in Professional Grazing Reserve and Village Grazing Reserve.

The protestors were permitted to march to the office of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and submit a memorandum to the chief executive member. However, the situation turned tense when the protesters diverted from the permitted route and did not pay heed to the security forces when asked to maintain the designated path.
