At least 15 hostellers hospitalized after having breakfast

At least 15 girls, all students of Bodhjung Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Tripura's Agartala, were hospitalized on Thursday after falling ill following breakfast at the NGO-run hostel.

Agartala, Tripura, June 20 (HBTV): At least 15 girls, all students of Bodhjung Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Tripura's Agartala, were hospitalized on Thursday after falling ill following breakfast at the NGO-run hostel where they stay.     

Reports said the students experienced acute stomach pain after arriving at the school. School authorities took assistance of the health department and transferred the students to GB Pant Hospital. 

The district magistrate of West Tripura, Dr. Vishal Kumar, visited the school and confirmed that 50 children had eaten at the hostel, and 15 needed hospitalizations.      

The affected students are currently said to be stable. Food samples have been collected for analysis.

The local authority said it aims to determine if microbial or chemical contaminants caused the illnesses.
