Assam: One lakh Yaba tablets worth INR 30 crore seized in Karimganj; two arrested

Two drug peddlers have been arrested and one lakh Yaba tablets with a market value of INR 30 crore have been seized from the two in Karimganj district of Assam, police have said.

Karimganj (Assam) [India], July 11 (HBTV): Two drug peddlers have been arrested and one lakh Yaba tablets with a market value of INR 30 crore have been seized from the two in Karimganj district of Assam, police have said. 

According to a senior police officer, the seizure was made during an anti-narcotics operation during the previous night at the Gandharaj Bari area, which is under Ratabari Police station in Karimganj district. The police intercepted a vehicle and found one lakh Yaba tablets from it, the officer said. 

The arrested persons have been identified as one Nazmul Hussain and a Mutlib Ali, said Karimganj’s superintendent of police, Partha Protim Das, on Thursday. 

‘We received information that a consignment of Yaba tablets was coming from the Mizoram side. Accordingly, we set up a police check post in Ratabari Police station and intercepted the vehicle,’ he said. 

Further, he added, "After thorough investigation, we found 10 packets of Yaba tablets from the inside of the fuel tank of the vehicle. We have arrested two people who have been identified as Nazmul Hussain and Mutlib Ali."

According to the police, the market value of the seized drugs is estimated at approximately INR 30 crore.
