Assam: Five including four of a family killed in landslide in Karimganj district

At least five people including a woman and her three daughters were killed in a landslide incident in the Badarpur area in Assam's Karimganj district late Tuesday night, police said.

Karimganj (Assam) [India], June 19 (HBTV): At least five people including a woman and her three daughters were killed in a landslide incident in the Badarpur area in Assam's Karimganj district late Tuesday night, police said. 

A three-year-old boy was also among the deceased.

Karimganj district’s superintendent of police Partha Protim Das told ANI over the phone that the incident took place at Gainachora (Bendargool) village under Badarpur police station area. 

During the previous night at 12.45 am, information was received about a landslide in the Gainachora (Bendargool) village area under the Badarpur police station, Protim said.    

‘Upon receiving the information, the officer-in-charge of Badarpur police station, along with his staff, SDRF staff, rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation. After three hours, the rescue team recovered five bodies from debris,’ Partha Protim Das said.  

Among the deceased persons, four are from one family. They were identified as Roymun Nessa (55), and her three daughters, Sahida Khanam (18), Jahida Khanam (16), and Hamida Khanam (11). The three-year-old child has been identified as Mehdi Hassan, son of Mahimuddin.
