New Delhi [India], December 3 (HBTV): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in Delhi on Monday to discuss the state's progress under the Har Ghar Jal initiative. During the meeting, Sarma highlighted that over 80% of rural households in Assam now have access to tap water connections and sought the Union government's assistance to achieve complete saturation of the scheme.
According to an official release, the Chief Minister briefed Union Minister Patil on the significant progress Assam has made in implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Har Ghar Jal' and securing over 80% tap water connections in the state.
Sarma urged the Union Minister to support the state further in advancing the initiative and ensuring its full implementation. In response, Minister Patil assured that his ministry would provide full support to Assam in achieving saturation under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, and senior officials from the Ministry of Jal Shakti also participated in the discussions.
Launched in 2019, the 'Har Ghar Jal' scheme aims to provide 55 liters of tap water per capita per day to every rural household on a regular and long-term basis by 2024.
