Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, September 26 (HBTV): The prime accused in the case of sexual assault of 21 children in Arunachal Pradesh's Karo has been sentenced to death. The case of Yumken Bagra shocked Arunachal Pradesh. He was convicted on Tuesday, along with two others identified as one Marbom Ngomdir, a teacher at the school; and Singtung Yorpen, former headmaster by the Yupia Sessions court.
The other two each received 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. Two other persons accused in the case, identified as one Daniel Pertin and a Tajung Yorpen, were acquitted in the case.
Yumken Bagra was a hostel warden of a government residential school at Karo in Shi-Yomi district. The case came to light in November 2022 when a parent of two victims filed complaint.
The state government formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the case. It found that 21 children – 15 girls and six boys, aged approximately six to 12 years – were sexually assaulted and molested by the warden Yumken Bagra.
It was also found that the accused used to give the children, medications that made them drowsy or sleepy before he committed the crimes. According to reports, there were six attempts by the students to commit suicide.
Bagra had also reportedly threatened to kill them if they disclosed the assault to anyone. He is said to be married and has two children.
