Namsai (Arunachal Pradesh) [India], November 25 (HBTV): Chief Minister Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh laid the foundation stones for two major projects in Namsai on Monday. These projects, worth INR 105 crore, include the augmentation of the water supply system with a capacity of 7.80 MLD and the construction of a multi-sport facility with an outdoor stadium.
Khandu praised Namsai as one of the fastest-developing districts in the state and credited the local community for their cooperation in executing developmental projects and resolving issues amicably.
'Kudos to all stakeholders, the hardworking locals, dedicated officers, and visionary leadership for making Namsai one of the fastest-developing districts in Arunachal Pradesh,' Khandu said.
In response to requests from local legislators, Khandu announced plans to further transform Namsai into a hub of learning and excellence by establishing a medical college, a nursing college, and a fishery college. He also announced plans for a new convention center and a football academy in the district.
Addressing the issue of drug abuse, which is prevalent in the district, Khandu urged leaders, elders, and student organizations to support the state government's efforts in combating the menace.
'We have a wholesome act in place to tackle substance abuse. But the state government alone cannot fight and win this battle. The proactive role of each member of society is essential to save our youth from this menace,' he said.
Highlighting the talent among Arunachal's youth, Khandu stressed the importance of providing platforms like the Arunachal Rang Mahotsava to channel their abilities positively. He also underlined the role of sports in engaging young people, noting the government's significant investments in sports over the past few years.
As President of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association, Khandu shared plans for collaboration with the North East United Football Club to run two football academies—one at the Golden Jubilee Stadium in Yupia and another in Namsai after the completion of the proposed football stadium.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and legislators Zingnu Namchoom and Likha Soni were also present at the event.
