Imphal, Manipur, June 8 (HBTV): A team of state and central forces have seized a significant quantity of arms, ammunition, and explosives devices in a joint operation during the past 24 hours in Imphal East and Bishnupur districts of Manipur.

A team of Bishnupur Police and the army launched a joint search operation in the Phosenphai and Terakhongshangbi Sangthong areas of Bishnupur district.

The team successfully found a Pompi mortar (locally made), one SMG carbine with magazine; one .303 Rifle with magazine; an IED weighing about 1.5 kg; two mortar ILLU shell with shell cover; five 36 HE grenades; six detonators; one telescopic sight; one tube launching grenade; and 12 live ammunitions among others.

Another joint search operation was conducted in the fringes of Imphal East district, under Andro Police Station. An explosive detection dog of the army was utilized in the search.

The team found a hidden arms cache leading to the recovery of one 9mm carbine machine gun; one 2-inch mortar; an improvised heavy calibre 60mm mortar; a Pompi gun, and ammunition.

The weapons and explosive materials have been handed over to Phougakchaokhai and Android Police Stations for necessary action, police report said.
