Imphal, Manipur, December 6 (HBTV): Amid the total shutdown imposed in Churachandpur district of Manipur, the burial ceremony of 10 killed in a gunfight with CRPF in Jiribam, on November 11, along with three others, including a 31-year-old woman found burned to death in Zairawn village, was conducted. The rites were conducted at the Peace Ground, Hiangtam, in Churachandpur on Thursday.

The ten militants were killed by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in retaliation following an attack on a CRPF post at Jakuradhor village in Manipur’s border district of Jiribam on November 11.

Earlier, on November 7, the charred body of the 31-year-old woman was found in Zairawn village after armed militants attacked the area.

During the burial ceremony, a total shutdown was imposed in the district by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), a Kuki organization. Schools, colleges, shops, and other business establishments were closed.

The advisor to the Mizoram Chief Minister, H Ginzalal, along with leaders of the Zomi Council and Kuki Inpi, were in attendance.

The ITLF has submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah through the deputy commissioner of Churachandpur, demanding justice for the “10 Kuki-Zo volunteers killed by CRPF” and a political solution to end the ongoing violence in Manipur.

The memorandum stated, “According to the post-mortem reports of the deceased, it is evident that the men were shot from behind, proving they were not engaged in a gunfight with security forces when they were killed.”

The NIA has re-registered three separate cases concerning incidents in Jiribam district, including the killing of the 31-year-old woman, the killing of six individuals after abduction, and the killing of ten armed militants by CRPF personnel.

ITLF spokesperson Ginza Vualzong told the media during the ceremony that the day would be marked as one of respect, mourning, and honor for the slain.

No untoward incidents were reported during the total shutdown in Churachandpur.
