A tragic accident claimed the lives of a woman and her child after their car plunged into the Barak River at Raipur in Assam's Cachar district.

Silchar (Assam) [India], December 18 (HBTV): A tragic accident claimed the lives of a woman and her child after their car plunged into the Barak River at Raipur in Assam's Cachar district. The woman's husband, Raisuddin Barbhuiya, a resident of Buribail under Borkhola constituency, managed to escape.

The accident occurred around 11:30 PM the previous night when the family was returning from Silchar after a medical check-up. Due to darkness and foggy conditions, their car veered off the road and fell into the river.

Barbhuiya, who was driving the car, reportedly broke the window glass and swam out but was unable to rescue his wife and their 13-month-old child.

Upon reaching the riverbank, he cried for help, prompting nearby villagers to rush to the scene. Police and disaster response teams were also informed.

Despite a night-long search, the bodies of his wife and child were not found until 7 AM the following morning, when local fishermen joined the rescue efforts.
