Guwahati (Assam) [India], February 12 (HBTV): As preparations intensify for the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025, Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu shared key details about the event, calling it a potential game-changer for the state's economy.
Speaking to ANI, Dr Pegu stated, ‘Preparations are in full swing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Assam on February 24 to witness the Mega Jhumur demonstration and will then participate in the plenary session of the Advantage Assam Investment Summit the next day.’
He added that the state is receiving an overwhelming response from investors, with over one lakh investment proposals already received, surpassing the initial target. ‘We initially expected around one lakh investment proposals, but we have already received intent letters for more than that,’ he said, highlighting the success of the summit's outreach efforts.
Dr Pegu emphasized that the summit would create significant employment opportunities for the youth of Assam, particularly by reducing dependence on government jobs. ‘Right now, job opportunities are largely confined to the government sector due to the lack of industrialization, but this summit will open a floodgate of opportunities for the youth,’ he noted.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held discussions with leaders from the semiconductor industry in Singapore on Tuesday as part of his two-day visit to promote Advantage Assam 2.0 - Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025, scheduled for February 25-26 in Guwahati.
In a social media post on X, Sarma stated, ‘Began my day in Singapore by engaging in a productive discussion with leaders from the semiconductor industry. Semiconductors are an important facet of India-Singapore cooperation, and I have invited them to partner with us at Assam's upcoming Electronic City in Jagiroad.’
During his visit, Sarma highlighted Assam's potential as a hub for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. He invited key industry players to collaborate in the development of the Electronic City in Jagiroad, aimed at enhancing the state's presence in the technology and manufacturing sectors.
As part of his engagements, the Chief Minister also met Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Their discussions focused on ongoing collaborative projects between Assam and Singapore, as well as ways to strengthen ties in emerging sectors such as semiconductors, green energy, and advanced technology.
Sarma recalled Singapore’s past engagement with Assam, noting the President's visit to the state in 2022. He also reviewed the progress of Surbana Jurong’s projects in Assam. The company, known for its expertise in urban planning, is involved in developing Assam’s cities and industrial parks.
Discussions with Surbana Jurong’s CEO Low Cher Ek and his team centered on leveraging Singapore’s experience in town planning and infrastructure development to enhance Assam’s urban landscape and industrial growth.
